“Bob was the artist and dreamer, while I was a little more practical — my role was making it happen. But all we had to do was bring somebody down and show them what the kids were doing, and they were on board.”

– Irwin Jaeger,
Co-Founder

“The reality is, Inner-City Arts was never just some entrepreneurial project. The idea came out of the greater mystery of life, and that’s what helped it grow. Now, as the pandemic has loosened its grip on the world … we’re growing again.”

– Bob Bates,
Co-Founder and Artistic Director

“My views on art are shaped by my Nigerian ancestry. Nigerians (and many Africans) believe that the world we see is an extension across generations and worlds, both spiritual and temporal. Ultimately art is a message; at once open to all and a bespoke message to the imagination of a specific viewer. The ability to create works of art that speak to our senses — and our spirits — is a gift. I am grateful that Inner-City Arts is providing this gift to so many of Los Angeles’ young people.”

CFO at Xos Trucks and Inner-City Arts Board Member
